Brand-neutral
WoodIntel is initiated and funded by SiOO:X Wood Protection. No supplier — including SiOO:X — influences rankings, and no product is named in results. Recommendations follow published performance data and the method at /method.
Cited by default
Every AI answer, specification and comparison includes traceable sources: standards, peer-reviewed papers, EPDs and verified project data.
Climate-first
We do not assume one species fits all climates. Live climate reanalysis and exposure indices drive the suitability scores.
Open methodology
Our durability scoring, service-life estimates and carbon calculations are documented. You can inspect the assumptions and reproduce the result.
Methodology
How answers are produced
The platform uses a deterministic engine first, then a retrieval-augmented AI layer. This means the core recommendation is reproducible from climate and material data before any language model is involved.
- 1Climate exposure is calculated from ERA5 / Copernicus reanalysis and Open-Meteo station normals.
- 2Species durability is mapped to EN 350 durability classes and adjusted for use class per EN 335.
- 3Service-life estimates are calibrated against field exposure data and peer-reviewed decay models.
- 4AI answers retrieve from indexed research, standards, EPDs and project case studies before responding.
- 5Every output is tagged with an evidence grade and a source list that can be exported.

Editorial independence
WoodIntel does not accept paid placement, sponsored species profiles or undisclosed affiliate relationships. When a treatment class is mentioned, the platform states the evidence basis and the performance criteria to specify.
Funding & independence
Who pays for this — and why it does not change the answer
WoodIntel was initiated and is financed by SiOO:X Wood Protection, a manufacturer of wood protection systems. We state that openly, because independence that is not declared is not independence. The funding covers development, data licensing and operations — it does not touch the model, the ranking or the wording of any answer.
The engine cannot see brands
Species, use class, climate exposure and detailing drive the score. No product, supplier or brand is an input to the calculation — including SiOO:X.
Untreated is a valid outcome
Where the model concludes that untreated or naturally durable wood performs adequately, it says so. A tool that always recommends treatment is marketing, not a decision tool.
No product recommendations at all
The platform never recommends, endorses or ranks a named product or supplier — including SiOO:X. Treatments are described by generic system class and the performance criteria to specify, so any supplier meeting them qualifies.
No paid placement
No sponsored species profiles, no paid ranking, no undisclosed affiliate links.
Reproducible, so it can be checked
The method, equations and validation benchmark are published. Anyone can rerun a calculation and audit whether the outcome favours the funder.
Why a manufacturer funds neutral data
Wood is specified too rarely, and too often specified in ways that fail early. Both problems come from missing evidence, not from missing products. Raising the quality of wood specification benefits the whole category — and a platform that only confirmed its funder's product would be worth nothing to the architects, engineers and researchers it is built for.

Advisory board in formation
WoodIntel is establishing an independent advisory board of architects, structural engineers, wood scientists and LCA specialists. We do not list names before appointments are confirmed and each member has approved the association in writing. Until the board is seated, methodology and content are reviewed internally against the published evidence rules on this page.

We would rather show an empty board than an unverifiable one.
