Who we are

WoodIntel is an independent platform that helps architects, engineers and journalists specify wood using standards, climate data and peer-reviewed research. This page is maintained by the WoodIntel team and explains how the platform handles personal data. For questions, contact andreas.gunberg@sioox.se.

What we collect

Contact details you send us: name, email address and message content when you write to us or request press material.

Queries you submit to the platform: the text of your questions, site coordinates and uploaded images are processed to produce an answer.

Technical data: IP address, browser type and pages visited, processed by our hosting provider to deliver and secure the site.

How we use it

To answer your questions and generate specifications, comparisons and climate assessments.

To respond to enquiries and press requests.

To keep the service secure, available and free of abuse.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not use your queries to sell you products from any manufacturer or supplier.

Legal basis (GDPR Article 6)

Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): when you tick the consent box on the press or fact-check forms so we may store and answer your message. You can withdraw consent at any time by contacting andreas.gunberg@sioox.se.

Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): keeping the platform secure, preventing abuse and measuring aggregated usage.

Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)): retaining correspondence where accounting or other law requires it.

AI processing

Questions submitted to the platform's AI features are sent to a third-party model provider for processing so the answer can be generated. Do not submit confidential client information or personal data about third parties in a query.

Anonymous usage insight

When you use Ask, Compare or Specify, we store the question text, the topics it mentions (species, treatment, exposure, climate, application), whether the answer drew on a tracked Evidence Engine claim, which tool was used and the time. Before storing, anything that looks like an email address, phone number or street address is removed and replaced with a marker such as [email removed].

For claim pages and tools we keep one counter per page per day: date, page address and number of views. Nothing else.

No personal data is stored in this usage insight: no IP address, no account ID, no device or browser fingerprint, no cookies and no third-party trackers. Entries cannot be linked to each other or to a person. Only WoodIntel staff with admin access can see them, and we use them to decide which evidence claims to add next. Stored questions are deleted after 12 months.

Processors and transfers

We use processors to run the platform: an application hosting and database provider (site delivery, form storage, authentication), an AI gateway that routes model requests, and an email delivery service for messages sent from woodintel.io. Each acts on our documented instructions under a data processing agreement.

Some processors may handle data outside the EU/EEA. Where that happens, transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.

Cookies and analytics

The site uses cookies and local storage that are necessary for the platform to function, such as keeping your session and preferences. Where analytics are used, they are limited to aggregated usage measurement and are not used for advertising or profiling.

Retention

We keep correspondence for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and to meet accounting or legal obligations. Technical logs are kept for a limited period for security purposes.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you may request access to your personal data, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, and data portability, and you may object to processing. Contact andreas.gunberg@sioox.se and we will respond within the statutory time limit. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

Changes

We update this policy when the platform changes. Material changes are noted on this page with the date of revision.
